I’m Jinil, a Korean local living in Suwon. If you’re coming through Suwon Station for an evening at the fortress, this is the detail I want you to remember: get off at Hwaseomun · Jangan Park — the festival starts right where you get off the bus.
This guide takes you from Exit 7 to the light installations and shows along Hwaseomun, Jangan Park and Janganmun. It’s a practical way to add the Suwon Media Art Festival to your list of things to do in Suwon, without spending the evening trying to work out where to begin.

What Is Suwon Hwaseong Media Art?
Suwon Hwaseong Media Art brings projected images, light, sound and performance to the fortress gates and the park between them. The historic setting is part of the experience: you move through a stretch of the city rather than heading into a single exhibition building.
For a first visit, I’d think of the evening in three parts: the main show at Hwaseomun, time to explore Jangan Park, and the immersive work at Janganmun. Choose a show time to plan around, then leave yourself room to enjoy what’s in between.
What to See Along the Festival Route
What to See at Hwaseomun
Hwaseomun hosts the main media artwork, 인연의 빛, which draws on King Jeongjo’s procession and the idea of welcoming people together. Projections are paired with a performance combining Korean dance, spinning-ribbon sangmo and ballet.
The published show times are 19:30, 20:30 and 21:30, with each show lasting about 35 minutes. Special viewing seats are free on weekdays and ₩5,000 per person on weekends, public holidays and the day before a holiday period. Check the booking calendar for your date; free general viewing does not mean every seating option is free or available.

Exploring Jangan Park
Jangan Park is part of the festival itself, not just a path between the gates. Its Media Park includes illuminated flowers and butterflies, the Suwon mascot photo area, interactive light works and a voice-responsive lantern artwork. There are also local market areas and a skewer food zone.
If you arrive before the main gate shows, the park gives you something to explore. Published activities include fringe performances at 18:30 and 19:00, bubble lighting every half-hour from 18:00 to 21:30, and giant Jenga from 20:00 to 22:00. The skewer zone is listed for 17:30–22:00. These are programme schedules, not a promise that every activity will run unchanged on your visit.

Janganmun Media Art
At Janganmun, 왕의 길, 동행 uses the gate’s curved outer defensive enclosure for a 360-degree media artwork. Images, lighting and sound surround visitors, telling a story of the king’s journey and the people who shared it.
Shows are listed at 19:00, 19:30, 20:00, 20:30, 21:00 and 21:30, lasting about 15 minutes. Don’t try to fit two shows into the same time slot at opposite ends of the route; give yourself time to enjoy the park between them.

How to Get There from Suwon Station
The first step is simpler than it may look on a map. You do not need to cross the road after leaving the station.
- Leave Suwon Station through Exit 7.
- Stay on the same side of the road. Use the bus stop directly in front of Exit 7.
- Choose a bus that stops at Hwaseomun · Jangan Park (화서문·장안공원). There is no need to rely on one particular bus number. Check the stop list and direction before boarding.
- Get off at Hwaseomun · Jangan Park. You are already in the Media Art Festival area when you step off the bus.
Save the Korean stop name on your phone so you can match it with the bus information or show it to the driver. Your visit then continues through the festival area from Hwaseomun, across Jangan Park, to Janganmun.

Parking / Public Transportation Tips
I’d choose public transport for this evening. The organiser warns of traffic restrictions and busy car parks around the festival. If you drive, check the official parking and traffic notice for your date rather than assuming the closest car park will be accessible.
The published list includes Hwahongmun Public Parking and Yeonmudae Parking. Availability and operating arrangements can change, so I have not quoted a parking fee or promised a space. Check live bus information before your return journey, too; this guide does not assume a fixed journey time or last-bus time.

Foreign-language Guided Tour
The festival’s 빛담 화성 guided programme offers an English, Chinese and Japanese session from 19:35 to 21:00. Its meeting point is Janganmun, and the route runs through Jangan Park to Hwaseomun — the reverse of the independent route described above.
If you book this tour, plan to reach the designated meeting point at Janganmun before your session. Arriving in the festival area at the bus stop is not the same as reaching the tour meeting point. Use the organiser’s booking link to confirm language availability, the exact meeting instructions and places for your date.
The published tour price is ₩5,000 on weekdays and ₩10,000 on weekends, public holidays and the day before a holiday period. Hwaseomun special seating is included.

Jinil’s Local Tip
I’d give this evening a little breathing room. Pick one Hwaseomun show first, then use the time around it to explore the park and continue to Janganmun. Trying to catch everything as quickly as possible misses the point of being here.
Keep the bus stop name and your chosen show time saved together on your phone. Those two details make the arrival much easier, especially if this is your first evening in Suwon. And if you have booked the foreign-language tour, build your plan around its Janganmun meeting point instead.
Weather & Before You Go
This is an outdoor event, and rain or operating conditions can change the schedule. The Foundation cancelled all programmes on 25 September 2026 because of the rain forecast. That is a useful reminder to check the day’s notice before travelling, even if you have already booked.
Special effects also have their own schedules and may change with weather or on-site conditions. Don’t plan your visit around a particular effect without checking the latest notice. Wear comfortable shoes, allow time for queues, and check your return transport before settling in for the last show.
